A balanced fatty acid ratio is a major component of healthy cell functioning, but many of us often consume oils that aren’t good for our health.
So, be sure to take on this challenge of the week: try swapping out the “oils to avoid,” replacing them with the “oils to enjoy.” (and, do be sure to check the ingredients in pre-packaged food!)
Which one is your favorite? Ours: coconut oil. ♥
I hear the best olive oils now are made in california, but italy.
hello and thanks for reading! do you have a favorite brand?
On which side of this picture would grape seed oil be?
hi amy.
grapeseed oil (like the other oils on the “avoid” list) is very high in omega-6. we already get enough omega-6 in our diets, and should avoid too much in order to ensure a proper balance of 3:6 omega fatty acids. additionally, grapeseed oil goes rancid quite easily, and hexane (a toxic solvent) is often used to extract the oil. if you are going to use grapeseed oil, use sparingly and do be sure to get an organic, unrefined, cold-pressed, hexane-free product… and store in the fridge!
i hope that’s helpful… please let me know if you have any other questions!
I purchased some at Costco a while back, and it is almost gone. I also bought a big jar of coconut oil at a Farmer’s Market a few weeks ago, so I will just stick with that.
Good to know the grape seed oil is not such a good alternative. Thanks!
